Choosing a Camp

Parents need to be aware of their child's interests and select a camp that is appropriate for his or her age, personality and ability. Children should feel comfortable with the thought of spending time participating in the range of activities that are offered at the camp. The camp should expand a child's horizons and increase their feelings of independence and self-sufficiency. Parents should consider the physical maturity and emotional readiness of their child before deciding on a day or resident program. The size, number of session days, distance from home, and camp philosophy should all influence a parent's decision.

Parents should research all potential camps and if possible, meet with a camp representative and talk with past campers and their parents. Camp brochures, websites and videos should be reviewed to answer questions about activities, staff, supervision and facilities. Take the first step and contact the camps that spark your child's interests. Make this a summer that your child will remember!
